Diodati Breaks Record at Fordham Christmas Classic

FULL RESULTS

Bronx, NY –
Senior captain Danielle Diodati (Haverhill, MA/Central Catholic) tied for second place in the 60 meter dash (7.8h) and finished fourth in the 200 meter dash (27.2h) at the Christmas Classic held at Fordham University's Vincent T. Lombardi Center Fieldhouse. Diodati's 7.8 finish in the 60 meter dash is a new Wagner College record in the event.

Other impressive finishes for the Seahawks included junior Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY/MacArthur), senior Amanda Gland (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug), and freshman Sheena Taylor, who registered first place finishes in their respective events.

Balling posted the event's best time in the 1000 meter run, finishing in 3:12.9h – two seconds ahead of Fordham's Ashley Davis for the top spot.

Gland, a senior captain, had two first place finishes on the day. Her first came in the Long Jump, where she leaped 5.35m (17'6.75”). Gland later took the top-spot in the Triple Jump, claiming a 11.20m (36'9”) – just two inches ahead of sophomore teammate Tiffany Dawson's (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) second place mark of 11.15 (36'7”).

Rounding out Wagner's top performances was Taylor, who took first in the shot put (11.60m, 38'0.75”) and the Weight Throw (13.47m, 44'2.5”). It was the second consecutive meet that Taylor claimed the top-spot in both events.

In addition to Dawson's performance in the Triple Jump, the first year stand out took fourth in the 60 meter dash (7.9h), second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.1h), and fourth in the Long Jump (4.73m, 15'6,25”). Classmates Andrea Dombek (Newington, CT/Northwest Catholic) and Dominique Serpe (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) added strong finishes, as well. Dombek took third in the 500 meter run (1.23.8h), while Serpe finished second in the 800 meter run (2:33.1h). Both freshmen registered Wagner's best finish in the event.

Today marked the last 2009 event for the Wagner College Track and Field team. The team will return to action after the holiday break on January 8th.
