Girls Distance

800m

A quartet of mid distance runners from two of the Class races have claims to being the 800m favorite. Kali Holden just ran her no-holds-barred style for the top seed with a win in Class LL over top-ranked Esme Daplyn. 2nd seeded Gabriella Hernandez held off 2021 Open champ Olivia Birney in the Class L meet. Both Holden and Daplyn are entered in the 1600m, while Hernandez and Birney are anchors on their 1-2 seeded 4x800m teams, so that could factor in here.

1600m

Kali Holden is top seeded in the 800m and she is also top seeded along with being top ranked in the 1600m. One thing that seems 100% likely is that Holden will blast to the front and dare anyone to catch her. Class L winner Emily Mrakovcic seems to be a chief candidate for the chase role here as her ferocious kick on Wednesday left everyone else a ways back. 2022 indoor 1600m and Class S winner champ Rachel St. Germain could also be ready to blast below 5:00 and run off with the title as a 16th seed, though she will be supposedly running in the first section and giving Holden and Mrakovcic a time to aim at.

3200m

Should a 9th seed and 7th ranked runner be the favorite in a race? When the 9th seed is the XC and indoor 3200m champ and basically just took care of business on the melter of a day at Class S, sure. In the 3200m Rachel St. Germain will at least be in the seeded section. Top ranked Katie Marchand of Trumbull got bumped in the Class LL race and did not finish. Katherine Rector has the top seed and Katherine Sanderson has the top remaining ranking at 10:47.02, while a different set of Sherry twins, freshmen Liv and Tess, hope to make their marks at the Open at a very young age.
