New England Championship Indoor Event-by-Event Recap

Girls Field

Long Jump

Kiyanni Simas came in as the big favorite after leaping past the 19-0 mark in a few recent MIAA meets including the state championship. Though she didn't get there at New England's, an 18-5 was enough to give her the title over CT champ Mariella Schweitzer who added a silver in the long jump to go with here bronze in the 55H and 5th in the 300m. Only an inch separated bronze medalist Emily Rubio from Erin Brennan, hurdles champ Jodi Parrott, and Lauren Boyd, who all had a top jump of 17-10.25.

High Jump

Although listed 13th in the seeding sheets coming in, Audrey Kirkutis could just as easily have been listed 3rd among a big group of twelve jumpers who cleared 5-2 at their state meets. Kirkutis was 2nd at the CIAC Open, but she had topped 5-6 a week earlier in the Class LL meet, so a PR of 5-7 to win New England's was certainly not a shocker. Shaylin Murphy made an even bigger leap from a best of 5-2 up to 5-6 to take the silver. MA champ Emily Rubio notched another bronze to go with her LJ medal as she PR'ed at 5-5, the same height scaled by Mari McBride and CT champ D'Jior Delisser.

Shot Put

Julia Tulimieri was runner-up in the MA state championship, but she blasted a 41-5 toss that was well over two feet beyond her previous best to win the New England shot put championship. Marina Perry was a quarter inch off her PR, and it earned her the silver. Freshman Brooke Serat seems to be rounding into shape as a very well rounded athlete between sprints, jumps, and the shot put, and though she was 7th in the MIAA championship, with scratches she got the chance to go to New England's and add almost 3 feet to her SP PR for the bronze. Tulimieri's sophomore teammate Skye Petrie-Cameron also set herself for the future with a 4th.
