New England Championship Indoor Event-by-Event Recap

Boys Relays

4x200m

LaSalle came in as the big favorite, but the Rams got a scare from Hall who held the lead and the all-important inside lane until the final turn. LaSalle powered home at the end to get the win though in a season's best 1:31.28. Hall held off a fast-closing Duxbury squad for the silver as both teams also posted season's bests.

4x400m

Hall fell a little short in the earlier 4x200m relay, but in the final race of the day with a lot fresher legs than the Warriors had to claim the CIAC state championship at 3:31.18, the team could not be denied. Hall got the lead over Austin Prep and Classical in the final seeded section and just kept opening the gap to its final 5 1/2 second margin for a giant season's best. Classical edged out Austin Prep at the finish, but both teams were about two seconds behind the mark that Greenwich put down in the next-to-last third section to get the silver.

4x800m

The 4x800 was a race of changes as Conard held a small lead after the first leg, Wakefield was on top at the halfway point and expanded it somewhat on the third leg. But it was Lowell, top seeded among the teams in the race, and CT champ Staples that made the big moves on the anchor leg to take the gold and silver at big season's bests of 7:56.19 and 7:56.76, while Wakefield also dipped under 8:00 for the bronze. In the battle of big anchors, Manchester's Aidan Puffer held off Conard's Gavin Sherry for 4th.
