New England Championship Indoor Event-by-Event Recap

Girls Relays

4x200m

Sheehan and Danbury had battled to almost a dead heat at the CT state championship as Alanna Smith gave her team just enough of a cushion on her second leg to allow Danbury to hold on for the win. Though most of the plot ran the same way at New England's, this time the story line had a different ending as the Titans gritted and gutted through the last half of the race to run down the Hatters midway on the final straightaway. MA state champ Andover finished 3rd in the race and got the nod over the previous section's winner Wachusett for the bronze though they both had the same time.

4x400m

Although Wachusett had gotten the short end of the timer's ticks for deciding 3rd place in the 4x200m, in the 4x400m they were top seed and all set to lay down a big time. A 4:00.80 shaved a few seconds off the Mountaineers' seed mark as they took a comfortable win over MA rival Lexington. The next five spots all went to CT teams with Windsor taking the bronze.

Glastonbury came in as only the 7th seed after a 2nd place finish at the CT state championship, but at New England's the team's almost sole focus was on this title. And though Brooke Strauss would later enter the 1600m, it was her gigantic anchor leg here that spelled the difference in bringing her team back against top-seeded MA champ Brookline as Weymouth captured the bronze.
