CIAC State Open Recap

Girls Distance

Simsbury junior Olivia Birney took an impressive double as she first came from a ways back to take the lead in the last lap of the 1600m and forge on to victory with a big PR, and she then followed up by winning the duel in the 800m with a CT #1 time. Though Birney was not top seeded in either of her events, Conard senior Chloe Scrimgeour was a huge favorite in the 3200m and she won by 18 seconds with a time just off the meet record.

Weston senior Julia Rosenberg got a PR in the 800m but it was not enough to hold off Birney. Greenwich junior Mari Noble made an early bid in the 1600m and finished with a time close to her PR in a 2nd place finish in the Class LL meet, but she got passed by Birney late in the race. Top-seeded Anna Keeley of Fairfield Ludlowe was 3rd in the 1600m, and Trumbull's Kali Holden rounded out four runners under 5:00. Six other runners followed Scrimgeour in at under 11:00 in the 3200m led by New Milford's Claire Daniels for the silver and Daniel Hand's Anna Steffen for the bronze.
