Tale of the Beast

New to the steeplechase in 2014 as a junior and just trying to figure things out, Jack Jibb finished 6th at States in 9:27.83, and he maybe got a long distance view of Corning's John McCarthy crashing on the last barrier as Hilton's Tyler Ranke moved back up for the win. By 2015 Jibb had everything figured out very nicely as he crushed the meet record of 8:57.34 by almost 10 seconds on his way to a 17.86 second Beasting. Jibb also got the 2K steeplechase distance down well as he raced to a National title a week later. At the last States in 2019, Parker Stokes emulated Jibb's Beast in just about every way except the States meet record part. Stokes also won in 2018, and by a truly evil 6.66 second margin when he set an NY junior class record of 9:05.67. And as noted by the average margin of victory, this is an event that breeds big Beasts.
