Recap: Two different race strategies almost produced the same results. Kurto was front and center for much of the race, running even with Walters through the first 75% of the race. It was with three laps to go that she took the reigns, and began to turn up the pace to tire the field. Baloga would ride the pace in third, going with Baloga, but not ready to make a move. With one lap to go, Kurto gave one final effort, but it was the 32-second closing lap by Baloga that would give her the advantage into the final straight. Seeing the finish, Baloga threw up her arms, but Kurto wasn't done, surging to the line, and almost stealing back the win.
Baloga would hold on by less than a second, and come away with the Freshman State Record in the event, breaking the mark of Kurto's former teammate, Kelsey Chmiel, by nearly 10-seconds.
