CIAC Open Championship Preview: Event-by-Event Blowout

Boys 1000m

Meet Record: 2:27.15  State Record: 2:25.55  Last Year's Winner: Miller Anderson (Hall) 2:33.22

Rhys Hammond was 3rd last year and is the lone returner from last year's medalists. The top five seeds are also the top five times in the rankings and all cone from either the M race won comfortably by Hammond or from the S race where Matthew Jennings and Jacob Ireland engaged in a great tussle. Nathan Paolangeli and Nick Sinofsky from the M race should be up there for medals. Note that there have been a lot of scratches in the 1000m in the last two Opens, and in both years just two sections were needed instead of the usual three. Some scratches are likely made to shift resources to a relay, and last year Connor Visnic shifted his focus to a 3200m that he nearly won, and in 2018 Alexander Korczynski placed all his marbles in a 1600m that he won. And yes, you can definitely win from the first (unseeded) section as Miller Anderson proved in 2018, though last year he made sure that no one would pull the same trick.

Record Hunt: Chris FitzSimons' 2:27.15 from a decade ago is in view but still a long ways from 2:30.
