CIAC Class LL Preview

Girls Distance

1000m

Meet Record: 2:54.49     Last Year's Winner:  Kate Hedlund (Manchester) 3:04.02

Hall teammates Jenna Zydanowicz (3:00.22) and Nora Holmes (3:01.36) went 1-2 at Yale for their seed times and will be the favorites. The number 2 qualifier Mari Noble scratched in the event last year and could focus on the 1600m or 3200m, but Southington's Jacqueline Izzo (3:01.40), Newtown's Ally McCarthy (3:02.27) and NFA's Kayla Park (3:02.60) could be strong challengers.

1600m

Meet Record: 4:55.86     Last Year's Winner:  Lauren Moore (Danbury) 5:12.18

The situation in this event is a little chaotic, and we cannot be sure where the slew of top distance runners are going to place their focus. Greenwich's Mari Noble (5:07.99, 5:00.51 conv.) won a close three-way duel at FCIAC to get her seed time, and in 3rd behind her there at 3:08.74 was Trumbull's Kali Holden. Noble and Holden should again go head to head here, and they could be joined by Manchester's Kate Hedlund who has the top mile-converted time of 4:57. 42 and won the CCC 3200 and also Southington's Jacqueline Izzo (5:08.56 conv.). The pack behind the leaders could include again NFA's versatile Kayla Park (5:13.96), Ridgefield's Katherine Rector (5:15.26), and Glastonbury's Kylie Hilliard ((5:18.50). Ridgefield's Tess Pisanelli is among the top seeds but has no results in a few weeks.

3200m

Meet Record: 10:19.26     Last Year's Winner:  Mari Noble (Greenwich) 11:06.55

Manchester's Kate Hedlund won the CCC and leads a potentially talented field at 10.54.94. Hall's Jenna Zydanowicz at 11:05.71 and Trumbull's Alessandra Zaffina at a converted 11:08.96 should also be in there. Three others who could be close at the finish are the FCIAC's top two of Trumbull's Kali Holden (11:13.51) and reigning champ Mari Noble (11:14.55) of Greenwich. Katherine Sanderson of Hall was 2nd at SCC with a 11:15.47.
