Previewing the MIAA All-State Championships

Girls Distance

800m

Meet Record: 2:07.14     Last Year's Winner:  Samantha Friborg (Acton-Boxborough) 2:07.27

Makayla Paige finished 4th in the 800 last year as a Tewksbury freshman, but this year after a huge dominating win at the Loucks Invite and a 2:10.31 time (again, nonqualifying), she is the favorite on Saturday. Billerica's Nicole Anderson also had a strong run at Loucks for 3rd at 2:10.95, so this race should be one to keep the eyes peeled for. Others in the hunt for podium places with seed times under 2:16 include Brookline's Sonja Nagle, Wellesley's Avery Mohan, and Franklin's Julia Fenerty.

1 Mile

Meet Record: 4:37.23     Last Year's Winner:  Grace Connolly (Natick) 4:51.96

Reigning champ Grace Connolly comes in as the 12th seed after a relaxed run while doubling at at MIAA Div. 1, but she will be the huge favorite after winning the BSC mile with a 4:51.20. Also in the running is 8th seeded Lucy Jenks of Newton South who went 4:56.94 at Weston Twilight. Top seeded Caroline McGrath of Walpole won MIAA E Div. 2 at 4:57.11, and 2018 runner-up Emma Kerimo of Concord Carlisle and Schuyler Gooley of Hopkinton are a shade over 5:00 and also seeking a podium place.

2 Mile

Meet Record: 10:24.21     Last Year's Winner:  Sophia Jacobs-Townsley (Amherst-Pelham) 10:49.67

Another event that you can throw out the seed times for is the 2 mile, where top seeded Grace Connolly is really sporting a 10:25.93 and reigning champ Sophia Jacobs-Townsley has a 10:27.28 converted time from the Arcadia Invite's 3200 two months ago. Obviously, this should be a highlighter, and both runners are entered in the 1 mile, though Connolly will likely be expending a little more oomph as the favorite in that race. Also coming in with season's bests of under 11:06 are Emily Boutin of Pope Francis, Connolly's sophomore sister Kate Connolly of Natick, Ashley Foley of Beverly, and Lindsay MacLellan of North Reading. 2018 3rd place finisher Meghan Davis of Mohawk Trail is also in there.
