The 2019 Glenn D. Loucks Games Preview Blowout

Boys 3200m

Event Info: Friday - 7:15pm

State of the Action

As usual, the Boys 3200m is the marquee event at the Loucks Games.  The 23rd seed here could probably win a State Title in as many States, but it only goes to show the magic of the White Plains track.  At the top, you have Matt Payamps, who took second in a thrilling 1-2 finish for Saint Anthony's the year prior.  Seeded in front of him is Ryan Oosting, who runs for the Dutch National Team, as well as the top finisher at NXN-NE this year. Rounding out the Sub-9 seeds is Shea Weilbaker, who might just be able to match the final kick Payamps has showcased all year.

Those may be your slight favorites, but seeds don't mean much for the race that annually produces more Sub-9 min performances than any single race East of California.  Eldad Mulugeta is coming off a Penn Relays 3000m win, there are plenty of unknowns from Canada and the northern reaches of New England, and that Loucks Magic is sure to propel some to times they never thought possible.

However, as usual, the pack will need to commit to a fast race from the gun. Over the past few years, there has been an understanding that the State Meet is for titles, more prone to tactical races, while Loucks is the race where you run fast.  Sit-and-kick doesn't benefit the field, and while the final trophy is nice, routinely putting a handful of guys under 8:50 provides a more thrilling race.
