2018 Boys NYSPHSAA Cross Country State Meet Preview

Boys Class B - Individuals

What The Numbers Say: This one should be a barn burner.  Tyler Berg has been on fire this year, diving for the win at McQuaid.  He's the top athlete at SPAC this year, and is running for valuable team points as well.  Parker Stokes is the States Top Returner, and knows how to peak.  He's been getting progressively better every week, and is rounding into form when the time is right.  On paper, the pair is about equal.

What Can Change: Berg was a top seed last year, too.  However, because of the conditions, a more relaxed effort was put forward, concentrating solely on the team win.  With Stokes running as an individual, the team win won't rely on that finishing order, so we may see another conservative effort, to prepare for either Feds or Regionals in the near future.  It's unlikely to play out that way, as conditions shouldn't resemble Wayne this weekend, but anything is possible.  It would also be foolish to rule out both Evan Brennan and Sam Lawler being in contention to challenge up front, as well.
