Fayetteville-Manlius added a moderate 13 point chunk of change to its speed ratings on the way to the national title, but Liverpool captured a spot at NXN with a more modest 7.7 point increase. A number of the teams such as North Rockland and Carmel started the year without at least one key runner. An average gain for Class A Top 20 teams of more than 16 points on the season reflects a process where many teams gradually pull in new varsity members for the upper ranks as the year progresses.
