This Year's Outlook
Manhasset moved up to Class A and extended its streak of Sectionals wins to four. Now the Indians are back in Class B, but only Christopher Courts and Adam Stefan return from last year's varsity on a much reduced squad. Manhasset should still have enough strength to beat Bethpage and Seaford for the S8-B crown, but the gap is narrow.

This Year's Outlook
The Blue Devils haven't won a Sectionals title in 28 years and finished 6th in the S5-B, but this year there is a glimmer of hope. All but one of the varsity is back this year including frontrunner Zakariah Jantzi, and there are no real powerhouses in the S5-B this year, even if Pittsford Mendon is the favorite as usual. At the very least, Batavia should greatly improve on last year's Sectionals finish.

Lewiston-Porter's Andrew Perrault was 33rd at States in 2017.

This Year's Outlook
Lewiston-Porter hasn't been to States since 1996 in a year that rules briefly allowed some sections to send more than one team to States and 13 teams competed in the States B race. But traditional S6-B power East Aurora is looking a little vulnerable in 2018, so the Lancers may be dreaming of an upset. Senior Andrew Perrault returns from a 33rd at 2017 States to lead the attack this year.

Pittsford SutherlandKnights

Pittsford Sutherland was among the teams in the Manhattan B race in 2017.

This Year's Outlook
The Knights have everyone back from last year's varsity except frontrunner Collin Regan. Though a lot of development will be needed to make Pittsford Sutherland competitive with Pittsford Mendon, for the first time in years, the gap is not that huge.

East AuroraBlue Devils

Section: 6Class: BColors: Blue and white

East Aurora's Ian Russ finished 11th at States and later ran at NXN Nationals.

This Year's Outlook
East Aurora extended its streak of Sectionals wins to four last year, but the Blue Devils also had their worst finish at States in eight years. Longtime frontrunner Ian Russ was off at States but rebounded to win a spot at NXN Nationals, where he placed 86th. After losing Russ and the top half of last year's varsity to graduation, East Aurora finds itself in the unusual position of being rated only 3rd in the section at the start of the year. The young Blue Devils' squad should develop strongly during the season, and Gavin McPherson, Nicholas Ebling, and Alexander Hillyard now have veteran experience for how to run in States mud.

GoshenGladiators

Section: 9Class: BColors: Royal blue and scarlet

Goshen's Liam Higgins finished 6th at States for the Gladiators in his senior year.

This Year's Outlook
Goshen's longtime great duo of Liam Higgins and Louis Greco graduated  from last year's team that lost by 7 points to Cornwall in Sectionals. Mount Academy has been moved up to Class B to challenge Cornwall and Goshen for the S9-B title, and only four Gladiators return from last year's Sectionals. Still there is enough talent on the Goshen squad to challenge for a title if the team can be filled out a bit. Nicholas Paneto will return as the new leader of the Gladiators after earning a States spot last year, though he was not able to go and partake of the fun in the mud.
