It may be a cliche to say a Pole Vaulter is continuously raising the bar, but that's exactly what senior Alana Carroll (Averill Park) has done in her final year. After winning States Indoors, Carroll has now completed the Outdoor Season trifecta. She has won the Penn Relays Title, the NY State Title, and now, the Outdoor Nationals title.
Carroll cleared a new personal best of 13-6.25 to win the competition. That moves her to NY #3 All-Time, as well as US #8 this year. The competition was close. With three competitors left at 13-2.25, Gennifer Hirata of VA managed to clear the height on the first attempt. Both Carroll and PA's Mackenzie Horn only managed to do so on their final attempt, putting them at a deficit if it came down to a tie. However, at 13-6.25 Carroll managed to clear the height on her second attempt, while the competition fouled out at that height. With the win in hand, Carroll took three attempts at 14-0, which would have tied the State Record, but was unable to clear it.
Carroll now moves on to Harvard University in the fall, where she will continue to vault. Carroll also competes for the Hudson Valley Flying Circus, and may have another crack at that State Record over the Summer.
