Saint Anthony's Takes On Texas Relays

The Friars of Saint Anthony's made the trip to warmer weather this weekend, heading down to Austin, TX for the Texas Relays. There, they would set a few NY #1's, to set the pace for the rest of the season.  Here is how it played out.

Runner Up in the 4x800m

To close out their weekend, the boys of Saint Anthony's went all in for the 4x800m.  They had run B-teams in the DMR and SMR, the former of which was the event they set the State Record Indoors.  But it was the 3200m relay that was on the agenda, and the they represented well.  Their time of 7:53.36, which took second, may be the fastest ever relay run that early in the season.  The mark would have stood as the 8th fastest time last year, at the end of the season.  They already ran 7:45.30 Indoors, which means they could dip well under 7:40 during Championship Season.

NY #1 in the 1600m

It may not have been the placing he was looking for, but senior Matt Payamps came home with a new NY #1 in the 1600m.  He placed 11th overall with his 4:17.26, in what was a loaded race.  Payamps ran the leadoff leg in the State Record DMR this Winter, and will be looking to bring that 1200m split under 3mins, if they chose to run the relay again.  The St. Anthony's senior would go on to run the 4x800m later in the weekend.
