Hear From Abby Norwillo After Breaking The Eastern States Meet Record

Abby Norwillo is jumping her best at the right time. Less than a week before the PTFCA Indoor State Championships, the Pittston Area senior competed in at the Armory at the Eastern States Championship on Tuesday. Not only did she come away with the win and a meet record, but it was also a personal best.

Norwillo jumped 13-0.75 to take the record, a quarter inch better than Leah Saifi's 2017 mark. It's also a quarter inch above Norwillo's previous best, which came at the Armory's Marine Corps Classic back in December.

It's Norwillo's first time back over 13 feet since setting that PR before the start of the new year. It was a barrier she was looking to get over ahead of next week.

"I was feeling really good today," Norwillo said. "I've been kind of having a little plateau after a PR earlier this season, so I really wanted to get over 13 feet again---that was a big goal."

Norwillo remains at PA#2, but this does improve upon her own PA#4 all-time mark. She will be one of the favorites in what has been a very strong season for Pennsylvania vaulters at Sunday's indoor state meet. We previewed the event at states HERE.

"I'm really excited for the state meet and nationals," she said. "I still have more in store."
