New York Girls State Overall Rankings

NOTE: These have no bearing on the Federation Invitations.

No rankings have been posted for a while as the postseason furor has started to play itself out, so going into the state championship up at Wayne HS and the CHSAA and PSAL championships on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park we are ranking the top 25 teams overall for New York along with a listing of about another twenty who are highly rated.

Rankings are based partly on the season's work, partly on performance at at the most recent meet (for most teams a Sectional meet), and consistency in recent weeks. The season speed ratings mark also provides the compression or skew number in parentheses, the span between the first and fifth runners on a team. The Last Week TR for most teams was for their Sectional meet, and the Last October Meet TR was likely a county or conference championship. The lower the compression number for a top team, almost always the better. That is why a team like North Rockland with a gigantic compression number of 78 is ranked behind a Monroe-Woodbury team that has a much lower speed rating score.

As always, some teams had to run hard while attempting to win at Sectionals, and other teams could afford to take a more laid back approach. The big surprise at Sections was the result of the Section 5 Class A race in which Canandaigua came out on top after finishing back in 5th at the Monroe County meet.
