Summary:  Last year S11-A was won by the season's surprise team Smithtown with a close pack that allowed it to beat Sachem North by 30 points even though the two teams had similar average times. This year the job will be harder for the reigning champs as Northport crushed at Section 11 Divisionals and moved to the top of the ratings for the state's Class A teams. The race could still be close with a lot of top teams factoring into the score, but Northport has made its case as a contender for the state championship. Northport frontrunner Isaiah Claiborne is the top returning runner from last year and will be the favorite after topping the field at S11 Divisionals.
