Now a sophomore, Katelyn Tuohy (North Rockland) wasn't wasting any time in sprouting back on the national scene. Already sitting fourth on the Bear Mountain All-Time list, Tuohy's monster effort of 16:24.99 at the Red Raider Run propelled her to the top of the list.
She surpasses Aisling Cuffe (Cornwall), who set the previous record of 16:27.2 back in 2010. Cuffe went on to win the Foot Locker National Title, as did Bear Mountain #2, Aislinn Ryan (Warwick). #3 on the Bear Mountain list was Liz Brenden (Rye Neck), who placed 5th at Foot Locker in 1986.
Coming in with a 157.67, it now makes Tuohy the 11th highest Speed-Rated athlete of All-Time. Because of the inconsistencies of the race, that number could be even higher, if more data existed. Currently, only six NY Girls have ever hit a 160 or better.
She'll be back to tackle her own course record straight up at the Rockland County Championship in Mid-October, but will be looking to defend her Manhattan Title first.
