Last Year's Summary: 6th in Sectionals A
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Queensbury drops back down to Class B after a year up in A, but of course that's a mixed blessing with Burnt Hills on top of S2-B as the highest ranked team in the state. The Q-Spartans need to make the most of this year with a senior-laden team, but States finalist Kevin Bouyea and fast-rising sophomore Nick Logan give the team a strong duo to build on.
Cornwall | Dragons | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Section: 9 | Class: B | Colors: Green and white
Cornwall's Patrick Vilda was the top finisher among the trio of Dragons at States last year.

States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Michael Fitzula (1992, B-9th) (1993, B-6th) (1994, B-5th) (1995, B-1st), Ian Clerkin (2007, A-7th)
Last Year's Summary: 2nd in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The young Dragons lost by 1 point to Goshen in Sectionals last year despite placing six runners in the top 13 finishers in S9-B. The good news for Cornwall is that all of those top 6 guys are back, and with States finalists Doyle, Bywater, and Vilda on the lead, the Dragons and the Gladiators should again be locked up in a classic showdown at Sectionals.
East Aurora | Blue Devils
Section: 6 | Class: B | Colors: Blue and white
East Aurora's Patrick Murray ran to a States 7th place medal in his senior year to lead the Blue Devils to 6th.

States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Bruce Marquart (1965, B-9th) (1966, B-6th), Bill McLaughlin (1980, B-5th) (1981, B-2nd), Dave Whitman (1984, B-9th), Brian Dodwell (1988, B-5th), Ron Hess (1994, B-8th), Dan Fields (2001, C-3rd) (2002, B-4th), Ryan O'Connor (2006, B-4th), Scott Anderson (2007, B-3rd), Lyle O'Brien (2008, B-7th), Sean Phillips (2011, B-9th), Elliot Martynkiewicz (2011, B-10th), Kenny Vasbinder (2013, B-7th) (2014, C-1st) (2015, C-1st), TJ Murray (2015, C-5th), Patrick Murray (2016, B-7th)
Last Year's Summary: 17th in NXN-NY, 6th in States B, 1st in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
East Aurora followed up two States titles in Class C with a 6th place finish up in Class B last year and then lost States medalist Pat Murray and two other guys from the States squad to graduation. With a 2017 lineup that is composed mainly of seniors, there is some urgency to make this a strong year before the next wave of young Blue Devils comes along. Leading the team will be Ian Russ who fell way back after winning the McQuaid AA race, but he will be among the top guys in States B action this year and should be able to make sure the Blue Devils fight off an expected challenge from West Seneca East in S6-B.
Tappan Zee | Dutchmen | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Section: 1 | Class: B | Colors: Red, silver and white
Jack Collins moved up in the Manhattan Invite's C race and during the season for Tappan Zee and led the Dutchmen with a 9th at Sectionals.
XC History | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
States Teams: 1954 (A-1st), 1957 (B-4th), 1958 (B-4th), 1959 (B-2nd), 1964 (B-6th), 1965 (B-6th), 1987 (B-9th), 2003 (B-1st), 2004 (A-4th), 2012 (B-5th), 2013 (B-6th), 2014 (B-4th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Eugene Martin (1954, A-1st), Joseph Dinnocenzo (1954, A-6th), Dennis Martin (1956, B-9th) (1957, B-2nd), Jack Dailey (1958, B-5th), Dan Patrick (1979, A-9th), Art Gunther (1987, B-4th), Tony DeRobertis (2004, A- 5th), Luke Gavigan (2013, B-4th) (2014, B-4th), Liam Burke (2014, B-9th)
Last Year's Summary: 5th in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Dutchmen again finished 5th in the S1-B and lost longtime frontrunner Brendan Hehir to graduation, so you wouldn't necessarily expect big things from TZ this year. But the top six finishers for the team at Sectionals are back this year in a senior-dominated team led by Jack Collins and Nick Alvarado, and that could at least help push the Dutchmen up in a very competitive S1-B.
Byram Hills | Bobcats | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Section: 1 | Class: B | Colors: Scarlet and navy
John Duarte at right (no. 2670) was the top finisher at Sectionals for Byram Hills in 14th.
XC History | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
States Teams: 1997 (B-1st), 2008 (A-9th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Chris Holmes (1973, B-6th), Max Kasak (2005, B-5th), Ryan Diorio (2005, B-6th), Phil Cawkwell (2005, B-9th) (2006, B-10th), Gerald McDonald (2006, B-7th), Marc Violone (2010, B-6th)
Last Year's Summary: 6th in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Bobcats were back in 6th in S1-B last year, but as a common theme goes this year, everyone is back on a senior-heavy team that has maybe enough of a pack to move up. The ranks are thin for the Bobcats, but Duarte gives them a guy who might be able to move up for a place at States.
