Several Athletes Shine At Hammerama

The annual Hammerama was held this past Sunday at Curtis Corner Middle School.

In the high school boys' 12-pound hammer, recent Woonsocket High graduate Jacob Greenless took home the top prize with a heave of 189 feet, 4 inches. Greenless's series included three tosses that exceeded 181 feet. Finishing second was Garrett Doyle of Lincoln with a distance of 188-5. Rounding out the top five was Woonsocket's Dilyn Cote (third, 187-3), Lincoln's Matt Thibodeau (fourth, 180-11) and Woonsocket's Jared Briere (fifth, 180-7).

Central's Keyarsa Harris claimed the girls' crown with a throw of 168-6. Faith Polando of Barrington was second with a 161-8 effort. Lincoln's Samantha Andrews (third, 157-9), Cranston East's Molly Botts (fourth, 157-4) and Barrington's Sydney Polando (fifth, 148-11), took the next three placements.

There was a meet record in the 16-pound open hammer. Anders Eriksson of Sweden took the title with a heave of 235-5. That beat the old mark of 232-5, set by Waltham's Chris Bryce in 2010. Taking runner-up honors was former Barrington all-stater and national champion Adam Kelly with a distance of 223-4. Clarence Gallop, a onetime Central star, was third at 207-3.

Crystal Bourque, a 2007 Coventry grad and all-stater, won the women's division, clearing the 200-foot mark with a distance of 202-1. Robyn McFetters, a former Barrington standout, was second at 178-11.
