Randall's Island, NY - Running at the Tracktown Summer Series, Lauryn Heskin came away with another victory, this time in the Mile, running a best of 5:16.78.  Heskin, who has been running competitively on the club scene since 2010, will be enrolling at the Marymount School next fall. The Marymount School competes in the NYSAISAA, which contests their own Sectional meet, which qualifies for the Federation Championships for Cross Country.  On the track, they are one of the four Federations to contest for titles during the NYSPHSAA Federation Finals.

Heskin is most notable for holding two separate State Records before entering the Varsity scene in New York.  She captured the 7th Grade Indoor State Record for 3000m in 2016, then followed that up with the 7th Grade State Record for the Indoor 5000m.  As an 8th Grader, she has run 4:42.40 for the 1500m, as well as 10:11.16 for 3000m, just seconds off her personal best.  Fellow 8th Grader Brooke Rauber (Tully), has run 4:40.45 and 10:03.54 respectively, but has done so against High School competition.
The 5'10" freshman will be joining the ranks of a very strong NYSAISAA female distance revival.  In recent years, athletes such as Ella Ketchum (Poly Prep), Julia Stevenson (Hackley), Paris Calcagnini (Convent of the Sacred Heart), and Carolina Beroutsos (Nightingale Bamford) have been placing very strongly in the State and National Rankings.  Ketchum recently took 6th in the State 3000m finals, one of the fastest in meet history.  Heskin has only a few road 5k's left, before she becomes fully immersed in HS training.
