Sammy Watson Takes 6th At USA Championships

Sammy Watson (Rush-Henrietta Sperry) came close to her goal of breaking 2-minutes for the 800m once again, clocking a 2:00.99 to grab 6th in a loaded 800m final at the USA Championships in Sacramento, CA.  Watson even split the race, going through the first 400m in 60.21, and then coming back in 60.78.

Watson characteristically spent the early part of the race at the back of the pack.  Like usual, she began to kick with 250m to go.  Many of the early favorites had already been moving, and Watson was unable to catch the lead group.  She held on through the line with another respectable performance.

It is unclear whether or not this will be Watson's last race as a prep.  We're unclear if her time makes her eligible for Pan-Am Jr's, or if she will pursue any local meets in an attempt to chase the Sub-2.  Currently, she is the third best performer in history at 800m Outdoors, while holding the National Record Indoors.  She is currently NY #2 All-Time.
