Alex Harris Goes US #10 All-Time In The 2000m Steeple

White Plains, NY - Running at the Section 1 State Qualifier, Villanova-bound senior Alex Harris (North Rockland) chopped off nearly ten seconds of her 2000m Steeple personal best to win the event, sending her to States as a heavy favorite.  Her new personal best stands at 6:38.47, finishing 25-seconds ahead of the 7th and 8th Grade National Record Holder in the process, now-frosh Mary Hennelly of Suffern.  Hennelly had the standard with her 6:56.00 from the Rockland County Champs, and will be going to States in the event as well.

The mark moves Harris up to US #1 this year, NY #5 All-Time, and US #10 All-Time.  The event is almost exclusively run in New York State, which is why many of the top National Marks belong to the Empire State.  Some teams also consistently put out strong talent, most notably Saratoga and Suffern, who have multiple members in the Top 10 All-Time.

Harris will have two more chances to run the 2000m Steeple, both at States, and Outdoor Nationals.  She has also qualified for USATF Junior Outodoor Championships, where they race the 3000m distance.  Harris is NY #2 All-Time already, hitting 10:31.79 as a sophomore, a Soph State Record by default, but somewhere just outside Top Ten US All-Time.
