While Kelsey Chmiel may have highlighted the Loucks Games with her 1600m/3200m double, Jessica Lawson was doing something similar upstate. For the Corning Senior, her efforts came at the 1500m/3000m distances, projected events for her to contest at the upcoming State Meet.
On Friday night, at the Corning Fast Times meet, two Corning athletes swept the longest distances. Much like the Indoor State Meet, Jessica Lawson took home gold in the 3000m with a US #2 9:29.33. Her teammate, Kevin Moshier, took home the 3200m in 9:15.02, which was NY #4 before Loucks. For Lawson, the mark is just 0.32 seconds off the State and National Leader, Chmiel. This potentially sets up an All-Time great battle at the State Meet.
But Lawson wasn't done. Heading to Union-Endicott the following day, the host of the 2017 Outdoor State Meet, Lawson took on the 1500m at the Parkhurst Invitational. There, she ran to US #7 with a 4:30.54 winning performance. Both marks came after Lawson set an 800m personal best of 2:11.76 last weekend at the Hornell Invite.
