New York City Sophomore Captures COA Title At Penn

She may have to share the honor, but Sophomore My' Khiyah Williams (Benjamin Banneker) still can say she captured a Penn Relays Championship of America title.  In a unique situation, Williams made the same number of clearances as fellow competitor Carly Hinkle (Winfield, WV), so much so that they finished the competition tied for second place.

The competition was won by Janique Burgher of Edwin Allen, JAM at 5-10, making Williams tied as the top American.  Typically, High Jump ties are broken by past clearances, but with the same record in the event, it would go to the next tie-breaking opportunity.  That would be a jump off, where the bar would be lowered one height, and first to miss takes second.  However, because this was not a tie at first place, that didn't happen.

Still, this is a major win for the Banneker sophomore.  She still holds the middle school state records in the event, and most recently added her first state   She was the State Leader Indoors, as well as Outdoors this season, placing 4th at the Indoor State Championships.  Her clearance of 5-7.25 at Penn re-establishes her lead in the State once again.
