Jyles Etienne Clears 7-1 Again, To Take The Bronze at CARIFTA

Stony Brook HS Senior Jyles Etienne proved he is now the man to beat come States Outdoors.  In his second Outdoor showing of the season, he has once again cleared the 7-foot bar.  At the Bahamian CARIFTA Trials, Etienne set the Suffolk Record by clearing 7-1.75.  Two weeks later, and he was once again in the State Leading position.

It wasn't easy going, however.  Etienne came down to the third attempt in clearing 7-0.25, but then made his 7-1 jump on the first attempt.  That clearance gave him the Bronze medal, although he would have already achieved it at the previous height, based on jumpbacks.  Etienne then took three attempts at 2.18m to match his PR, but failed to clear the height.  This performance makes Etienne the favorite heading into Penn in two weeks, as the two superior athletes are not on the startlist.
