NY Runner Seeks Support For Injured Roommate - 'Show Us Your Shoes'

Elon, MD - Tragedy has struck a small Division 1 College down in North Carolina.  Last week, Molly Offstein, a CO native, was truck by a car on her morning run.  Now, roommate and former East Aurora standout Sophia Tasselmyer is among those asking for support in a campaign called "Show Us Your Shoes"

'Outside of the Elon University community, the small western Maryland town of Frostburg is joining in prayers for Phoenix freshman runner Molly Offstein, who is in critical condition after being struck by a car while running Monday.

"She was just the best of the best," her high school coach, Norm DeRosa, said by phone this afternoon. "She had the best of everything we have to offer up here at Mountain Ridge High School. She was the speaker at her graduating class. She was a state champion a couple of times, once in the 2-mile, once in the 800 (meters). She was just incredibly well-loved, hard-working, dedicated -- just everything that you would want from a young person."

Offstein, 19, who competed for Elon in cross country in the fall and indoor track during the winter, remains at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She was running on North O'Kelly Avenue in Elon about 7:30 a.m. Monday when she tried to cross University Drive and was struck by a driver who had a green light at the intersection and was driving east on University Drive.'
