State of the Action: A little bit of a shift from last year, where we saw seven girls dip under 10mins in the 3000m. Now, only top seeded Kelsey Chmiel returns from that bunch, and with a seed ready to go faster. Amanda Vestri placed 14th last year, but is a different athlete in 2017. She will do her best to put pressure on Chmiel. The Saratoga sophomore likes to push the pace early, breaking the field. How that field responds should set the tone for the race. Two more are looking to dip under 10mins. Claire Walters has raced Vestri before, coming across almost even at the McDaniel Baxter invite. Fortunes were reversed deeper into the XC season, but history indicates they'll be pretty close to each other. Another XC standout is Brianna O'Brien, Class C XC Runner-up. With a seed right on 10:01, the fast pace will surely bring her under as well. | |||||
