Chenango Valley Provides Great Championship Battleground - State Meet Recap

Boys Class A Individuals

State of the Action: From an individual standpoint, the Class A boys race was beyond compare.  It was predicted to be a toss up of almost ten different athletes, and the race played out almost exactly to that effect.  By 2.5 miles (the middle picture), it was still anyone's race.  In the final stretch, it was down to three athletes.  Ty Brownlow rounded the turn equal to Noah Carey, with Chris Tibbets closing behind.  Carey began to slow, as Brownlow's track speed began to kick in.  Brownlow pushed through the line, three seconds ahead of second, capturing gold.

The victory was hard to predict.  Brownlow had spent much of the season as Liverpool's second man, running just off teammate Stevie Schulz.  He was in the mix to win, yes, but it was anything but concrete.  The win completes the double-single, only the second time it's ever been accomplished.  Only one team had ever won consecutive individual Class A titles by two seperate athletes before, and with Ben Petrella's win the year before, Brownlow completed the package.  The only thing left would be next year, making it the triple-single, but there are plenty other athletes looking to challenge.
