Summary:

Xavier started the season off a fair ways ahead of the rest of the CHSAA teams, buoyed by a more intact squad than that of reigning champ St. Anthony's, who lost three of its top four from last year to graduation. But by the Manhattan Invitational about a month ago the gap between the two teams had narrowed to a small margin as both teams settled into the top 5 of the Class A rankings. Since Manhattan though some questions have risen about the health of some key Friars as top guy Mathew Payamps has fallen back a bit and Amani Morrell was held out of the NSCHSAA and St. Anthony's was upset by St. John the Baptist. Xavier continued a general rise in the speed rankings through the NY-BQ CHSAA and seems to have solidified its position again at the top.

Along with the possible health questions for some runners, another factor that causes flux in the CHSAA projections is the number of teams that are near the top, with a half dozen being within 12 TR points of each other. Chaminade and Kellenberg are in the high 150s and may be a little too far back to be serious contenders, but runners like the Flyers' Patrick Conklin and Connor Fitzgerald may have a major impact on the outcome. St. Peter's has a top four all rated above 160 which also makes it more of a threat if the fifth Eagle can get up into the mid 150s. As the 4th-rated team, St. John the Baptist does carry the title of NSCHSAA champ in with it as the traditional harbinger of the CHSAA winner, and the Cougars have enough guys near the top to make a run at the title.

With all the uncertainties about who will be running at the CHSAA championship and at what strength, we'll just provide the results for the top six teams of a virtual score taken from the current Tully Runners leaderboard, rounded up to the next point

1. Xavier 46,  2. St. Anthony's 74,  3. St. Peter's 99,  4. St. John the Baptist 108,  4. Chaminade 120,  6. Kellenberg 140
