Manhattan Invitational Eastern States Girls Race Preview

Edward J.J. Bowes '64 Girls Eastern States Championship - 2:46

Overview

The Eastern States is coming at you with two swarms of angry Hornets, haka-crazy Red Raiders, bulldozing Florida Bulldogs, wiry Whippets, Flaming Arrows, Red Devils and Redhawks, a couple of breeds of Wildcats, and even a Thundering Herd. And if you really want to talk fearsome sounding, be prepared for the Pandas of Padua. Run down fast to stake your position near the Tortoise and the Hare finish line or the Eastern States will all be by in a flash.

Fayetteville-Manlius is back seeking a third straight victory in Eastern States, but there are a number of highly rated teams lining up to knock off the national champs. Will North Rockland be the team to pull off a Tatnall-2012 on the NY Hornets? Can the Jersey girls from Ridge be the ones to get to the top of the peak? Will the Bolles runners from Florida beat a hurricane to get up north and accomplish the impossible? Will Monroe-Woodbury take its crusade to a glorious conclusion? Or will FM just be tuned in as usual? All will be revealed by a little after 3:00 on Saturday.

The lineup for this year's Eastern States includes the following:

**  2 of the top 25 ranked teams in the US, including top-ranked reigning national champ Fayetteville-Manlius

**  5 teams that are ranked or rated as the top squad in their state, from DE, MD, NY, RI, and VT, plus another four that are rated in the top 3

**  A top 25 ranked runner at the head of the field, Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland

**  2 experienced winners of Manhattan Letter races in 2014 -- Abbey Green of Walter Johnson and Lydia Olivere of Padua

**  3 teams from last year's NXN Nationals -- Fayetteville-Manlius, North Rockland, and La Salle of RI

The tee shirts will be screaming the usual mix of profound XC wit and wisdom, the crowds will be rocking, and a couple of thousand runners will be rolling home to a great time at Manhattan.

And as always, it just can't be beat.
