Alyssa Sandy Cracks The Hurdle State Record At The PSAL City Champs

With the weather taking a turn for the hot, of course the sprinters will frolic in the sun.  One such sprinter was Alyssa Sandy of Paul Robeson, who had already been throwing down quick times all Winter, and came out at Loucks with the fastest time since 2010.

But that was nothing compared to this afternoon, where Sandy twice dipped into US Top 10 in 2016.  In the Semi's, Sandy blew out the field to cross the line in 13.38, over a full second faster than the standing State Record.  Unfortunately, as Icahn Stadium is notorious for, the mark was wind-aided, with a 2.1 tailwind.

That wouldn't stop Sandy, who would come back in the finals, to grab the win again.  This time, the mark was 13.45, now with only a 1.3 wind reading.  Good enough to break the previous State Record, held by Ronetta Alexander of Williamsville South, since 2003.

What makes the mark more remarkable (no pun intended), is that this is only Sandy's second year hurdler.  After picking it up her Junior year, she is now the premiere hurdler in the Empire State.
