Saturday, May 7th is home to the annual Runnin' Cadet Classic at Hilton High School. Always a highlight of the "Under the Lights" session is the Glavin Invitiational 3200m/3000m. The event routinely brings out the best of Western New York for one loaded race. This year, the top seed on the boys end of competition is the son of the event's namesake, Donny Glavin (McQuaid). For the girls, the duo of Jess Lawson (Corning) and Abbey Wheeler (Elmira) will be making the trek from Section 4, to duke it out for the title.
"The Glavin" is in memory of Pete Glavin, resident of the Hilton School District and former meet director of the McQuaid Cross Country Invitational. Pete's influence on the Rochester area running community extends well beyond McQuaid and Hilton. Pete was also co-founder of the Genesee Valley Harriers. Pete is and will continue to be missed. "The Glavin" is a collection of the best distance runners in the area to run 3200m (boys) and 3000m (girls). "The Glavin" will be run during the Saturday Night Showdown.
