USA- based Guyanese sprinter Brenessa Thompson became the second athlete to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Thompson clocked 11.31s to dip under the qualifying mark of 11.32s for the women's 100 metres on Saturday at the Michael Johnson Invitational.
The time was also a new stadium record for the Waco, Texas based Stadium as well as a new personal record for the A&M student.
Brenessa Thompson is the reigning New York State Champion in the 100m, running for Medgar Evers. Her personal best was a wind-aided 11.34, surpassed by her wind-legal qualifying mark.
