Oops. Consider this a mistake on our part, but we may have missed something significant. On January 13th, during the Millrose Trials Invitational Mile, Mary Hennelly finished 6th overall. While the finishing position may not have been enough to guarantee an auto-slot in the prestigious Millrose Games, Hennelly grabbed another honor. And we missed it.
Hennelly, an 8th grader at Suffern HS, broke the State Record for the 8th Grade Mile, held by Nicole Blood (Saratoga), set in 2001 at the Brown Invitational. The mark, which is slower to the 7th grade mark, which caused the confusion, stood at 5:03.25. Hennelly ran 4:59.91 in taking 6th place, to smash the record.
