Following Week of Saturday, September 26
The second week of rankings for the season follows a busy weekend that saw a lot of teams going to out of state meets, while teams from out of state paid a visit to Bowdoin Park to get a preview of the course for NXN regionals. Among the NY meets where major action was occurring were Baldwinsville, Queensbury, EJ Herrmann, East Aurora, Suffolk Coaches, Victor, Xavier, and Red Raider, while the Six Flags Wild Safari (NJ), Carlisle (PA), and Ocean State (RI) topped the out-of-state meets. The Bowdoin Classic served as a meeting ground for Northeast region teams plus some NY teams who just can't get enough of that hill.
There were a few debut performances for teams like Honeoye Falls-Lima, and Pittsford Mendon. This week the rankings expand to slots of 25-25-25-20 for classes A-B-C-D. A few teams that are still too shy to run have been moved to the Watching For list, as we are heading into October and teams have to be evaluated on what they have actually accomplished and not on any preseason expectations.
Note that speed ratings for
teams and runners are based on season's averages, and not as some
coaches seem to believe on just a runner's best result. Results are very
fluid this time of year and teams change very fast, so a close decision
over a rival in an early September kick-off race may not have a huge
amount of relevance as we enter the autumn weeks. For various reasons,
coaches are often resting some top runners this time of year, so results
in meets can't always be strictly tied to the rankings. Some major
races this weekend such as McQuaid and St. Anthony's will certainly tell
us a huge amount more about where the teams stand.
Cheers to all.
