NY Relays: Nation No. 1 for Colantonio in hammer; Rego second in mile invite

La Salle junior Eliza Rego nearly earned a berth to adidas Dream Mile.

Barrington junior Bobby Colantonio established a nation No. 1 in the hammer at the New York Relays Friday night with a winning toss of 238 feet, 7 inches. Colantonio overtook senior teammate Adam Kelly as the new leader in the event. Kelly was second at the NY meet with a distance of 234-02. Moses Brown senior Owen Russell was third at 218-11.

Classical junior Lysah Russell won the girls' crown with a near PR of 149-06. Woonsocket's Tara Rochefort was third at 137-07. Rochefort was also sixth in the discus with a throw of 106-08

In the girls' Invitational Mile, La Salle Academy junior Eliza Rego came inches from earning a ticket to the adidas Dream Mile by placing second with a fast 4:55.70 clocking. Rego was just .18 of a second from winner Lucy Biles of Herriman High in Utah.

La Salle junior Jack Salisbury was sixth in the boys' race with a time of 4:23.98.

Hope senior Whitney Jackson was less than a half a foot from the winner in the triple jump with a third-place effort of 36-8.75. In the 2K steeplechase, East Greenwich senior Margaret McCaffery was sixth with a time of 7:43.01.
