1/17 Weekend in Review

Amere Lattin (Fort Bend Marshall, TX) led a star-studded field in the Boys 60H Finals at the Carl Lewis Invitational at the University of Houston on Saturday, January 17. The future Cougar ran US #2 7.95, as runner-up Isaiah Lucas went US #3 8.00 and Jared Sampson clocked US #5 8.03. Watch the race video here.

What went down this weekend? Indoor track is heating up!

  • Yale Track Classic (CT) - Conor Lundy raced US #1 8:26.55 3k for a new meet record. Shenendehowa (NY) boys split 2:00/2:00/1:58/1:56 (unofficial) en route to US #1 7:55.98 4x800m. Syosset made the Boys Championship DMR an honest race, but La Salle (RI) held off the New Yorkers for US #1 10:22.25. Syosset ran US #3 10:23.27. In the Girls Championship DMR, Cardozo proved they can run longer than a quarter mile as they charged to a US #1 12:07.69. Amanda Crawford continued her dominance in the quarter, ripping to a new US #1 54.95 400m.   • Arkansas High School Invitational (AR) - 2015's fastest returner to the 800m, Terrell Jackson, finally made his debut in the distance. It was worth the wait, as the TN standout went US #1 1:51.80. Tonea Marshall recorded her assault on the leaderboards, recording US #1 8.50 60H and US #2 7.58 60m behind Kira White (US #1 7.57) and just ahead of I'Shunique Hamilton (US #7 7.59).   • Molloy Stanner Games (NY) - Bishop Loughlin Games Mile Champion James Burke stole the US #1 2:26.75 mark, which also stands as NY #8 All-Time; James Asselmeyer went US #2 2:27. Mikey Brannigan goes US #1 9:09.77 3,200m, leading John Rice (US #3 9:11.59) and Patrick Sullivan (US #4 9:15.17) to national-leading times as well. Bella Burda lowered her own US #1 3k to 10:03.63 Also of note, defending state champion & current US #5 800m runner Jazmine Fray makes her 1k debut, winning a close 2:59.67 for NY #10.   • Carl Lewis Invitational (TX) - Youth Olympics hurdler Amere Lattin led a loaded field to the top of the 60H leaderboard, racing US #2 7.95 to become just the second prep under 8 seconds this year. Isaiah Lucas was runner-up in US #3 8.00, just ahead of Jared Sampson (US #5 8.03). Samiyah Samuels had a nice double, racing US #10 7.61 60m and jumping US #7 19-0 LJ.   • National Pole Vaut Summit (NV) - Armand Duplantis (Lafayette, LA) reset his own national freshman class record with a 16-8 clearance! His previous record was 16-1; "Mondo" sits US #5 on the national leaderboard. US #6 Tommy Dial also cleared 16-8, while US #3 Jacob Wooten cleared 17-0 for the win.   • University of Washington Indoor Preview (WA) - Young guns stole the show at the collegiate meet as sophomore Sophie Cantine ran US #1 2:50.25 1k and Kristen Garcia - just a freshman! - stole the nation lead in the girls 3k from Bella Burda (NY) with US #1 10:02.63. Full coverage & results here.
  • KYA High School Indoor Classic (TN) - Ryan Clark goes 21.59 in prelims, then blasts US #1 21.35 200m in the finals. Defending NBN hammer throw Champion Sabrina Gaitan (GA) makes her 2015 debut with a 59-7 Weight Throw for a new US #1 by nearly three feet. Read the TN MileSplit recap here.
  • MITS SVSU #1 (MI) - The nation's top short sprinter (US #1 6.78 55m) in Jaron Flournoy moves up in distance to demolish US #1 47.35 400m. Full coverage & results here.
  • Western Maine Conference meet (ME) - Kate Hall is queen of the runway this year, leaping to a new US #1 20-1.5 LJ. She is the first girl over 20 feet this year and the mark is an all-time personal record for the Iowa State signee. Hall also ran 7.12 55m (she owns a season-best of US #2 6.99) and 25.38 200m.   • Prince George's County Championship (MD) - Rico Gomez owns the 500m this year, blazing his second sub-65 for a new US #1 1:04.55 en route to the county title. Full coverage & results here.
