Ronaldo Griffiths Leads NYC Contingent at USATF JO's With National Record

Humble, TX - While many of the worlds eyes are on Oregon, others have traversed towards Texas, for the USATF Junior Olympics.  Names like Trentan Beram, Zola Golden, Hope Pietrocarlo, and more have made the journey, but it seems like the freshmen are stealing the show.

In addition to Sammy Watson's big PR from yesterday, we now have a new Freshman State Record in the 400m Hurdles. Breaking his standing mark from the PSAL City Championships this May, Ronaldo Griffiths of Clara Barton lowered his PR by a full second, hitting 52.61 in the finals of the event.  That now ranks him NYS #11 All-Time in the event, and moves him closer to the state leading time set by Rai Benjamin of Mount Vernon.

Other city stars include Griffiths' teammate, sophomore Kermani Mighty took third in his age group over 400m, with a 48.91 performance.  Similarly, Shayla Broughton took first in the Long Jump with a 19-2 performance, as well as a clearance of 5-7 in the high jump.

Two stars from Arlington, representing the city-based Gotham Sparks Track Club, also had influence in Texas.  Trenten Beram lowered his PR after a season of mishaps in the open 400m, clocking in 47.72, as well as a 21.24 over the 200m.  Zola Golden likewise competed well, hitting 23.91 in the 200m, as well as 57.11 over 400m.

Sammy Watson returned later in the day to clock 54.82 over the 400m, as well as upstater Hope Pietrocarlo hitting 11:00 in the 3000m.
