Classical High’s Maddy Berkson notched her third outdoor state record on Saturday at the 47th Glenn Loucks Games at the White Plains (N.Y.) High School facility. The Stanford University-bound senior finished third in 4 minutes, 52.08 seconds (= 4:30.4 @ 1500 meters), eliminating the 16 year-old mark of 4:55.06 set by Portsmouth High’s Laura Turner at the 1998 National Scholastic Championships in North Carolina.

Saturday’s mile race was won by Danae Rivers, of Wilbur Cross (CT) High in 4:49.62.Berkson went through the quarter in roughly 69 seconds, and the 800-meter mark in 2:20. Berkson ran a strategic race.

“I moved up to fifth with about 300 [meters] to go,’’ she said. “I finished strong, though my legs were a little tired at the end. “I didn[t know what to expect, this being my first big meet of the season. I wanted to stay in the pack and have a good race. The track was nice’’

Berkson went 2:10.04 for fourth place in Friday night’s 800-meter run.
